Description
Harcot is an attractive, early season, high quality apricot (Prunus armeniaca) with adequate cold hardiness and resistance to bacterial leaf spot [Xanthomonas pruni], brown rot [Monilinia fructicola], and perennial canker [Leucostoma spp.]. It was introduced in 1977 to meet the need in Ontario (Canada) for a better adapted, cold hardy and disease resistant cultivar for the fresh market. The cultivar was released from the breeding program at Agriculture Canada, R.E.C. Layne, Harrow. The original cross (1963) was made by L.F. Hough and C.H. Bailey at Rutgers University.
