Orig. in Candor, N.C., at the
Sandhills Res. Sta., by F.E. Correll and C.N. Clayton, North Carolina Agr.
Expt. Sta., Raleigh, N.C. Introd. in 1965. Redhaven x Erly-Red-Fre; cross
made in 1957; selected in 1960; tested as N.C. 7422. Fruit: size uniformly
good; round, only a slight tendency to be pointed; skin with a bright red
blush over about three-fourths of a rich yellow ground color, very attractive,
pubescence medium short; flesh yellow, texture very fine, very firm with
no tendency to soften at tip or along suture, flavor unusually good, highly
resistant to browning; semi-freestone; ripens just before Earlired and Dixired,
about 10-15 June in the Sandhills area. Tree: moderately vigorous; producing
medium to very heavy crops; flower nonshowy; blooms in Redhaven season;
self-fruitful; chilling requirement similar to Redhaven; foliage moderately
resistant to bacterial spot; leaf glands reniform
