Released in 1970 from the USDA-Byron, GA breeding program. Original cross made at Beltsville, MD and seedling selected at Ft. Valley, GA. Formerly tested as FV6-256. Summergold is a freestone cultivar that was released primarily for use as a high-quality processed product. Nonshowy flower.
