Description

Orig. in Fort Valley, Ga., by the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture. [(Southland x Sunhigh) x Coronet] x [(Sunhigh x Southland) x Springtime]. Cross made in 1962; first fruited in 1965 and selected that year by V.E. Prince; tested as FV3-381. Fruit: small to medium; round with a slight point; skin has a bright red blush over 70% of the surface; pubescence is fine and short; flesh is firm but melting, medium in texture, flavor is good, semi-freestone when fully ripe; ripens 1 week before Red Cap and 3 days after Springcrest; fruit with split pits have not been excessively high. Tree: vigorous; productive moderately susceptible to bacterial spot; chilling requirement about 750 h; flower has small petals, self-fertile; leaf glands reniform.
