Description

Orig. at Byron, Ga., by W.R. Okie, U.S. Dept. of Agriculture S.E. Fruit & Tree Nut Res. Lab. Introd. in 1989. Loring x [(Fairhaven x FV89-14) x (FV89-14 x Duke of Georgia)]; FV89-14 is an F2 of (Hiley x Fireglow) x Fireglow. Cross made in 1966 by V.E. Prince; selected in 1970; tested as FV7-1240 and BY7-1240. Fruit: medium; skin attractive red, light pubescence; flesh melting, clingstone. Ripens with Junegold, 3 weeks before Redhaven. Better shape and color and few split pits than Junegold, which it replaces . Flowers showy, self-fertile; leaf glands reniform; moderately resistant to bacterial spot. Chilling requirement about 650 h.
