Description

Released from Clemson University in 2005. Seedling originated from a cross of 'Springbrite' x pollen mix (mix of many early ripening cultivars) made in 1983 by D.W. Cain. The selection was made by W.C. Newall, Jr. in 1986. It was subsequently tested as SC83032-17-145. Additional testing of 'Carored' has been carried out at sites in Edgefield and Orangeburg counties of SC. Carored has non-showy self-fertile blossoms that sets heavily. Leaf glands are reniform. It ripens 3-4 days before 'Junegold' that it may replace.
